What it
costs.
We do not publish a rate card. A price given before anyone has measured your opening is a guess dressed up as a quote. What we will do is explain how this trade prices work, so you can judge any quote you get, including ours.
Two ways to quote, and nobody says which
This is the single biggest reason gate quotes in Madurai are impossible to compare.
Basis A
Per square foot
A rate applied to the area of the finished gate. Simple to quote and easy to understand, but it says nothing about how heavy the steel inside it is. Two gates of the same area can be made of very different amounts of steel.
Basis B
Per kilogram
A rate applied to the weight of steel used. That does reflect the material, but the final figure is not known until the gate is built. And a heavier gate is not automatically better if the weight is in the wrong place.
The point
The basis alone tells you nothing about value. What matters is what the rate includes. That is what the checklist below is for.
Five questions to ask every vendor
Ask all five of every quote you collect, ours included. Once the answers are written down, the numbers finally mean the same thing.
- 01
Which basis is the rate on?
Per square foot of gate area, or per kilogram of steel? The same gate can be quoted either way. Until you know which, two numbers are not comparable at all.
- 02
What section sizes are being used?
This is where most of the difference between a cheap quote and a fair one sits. Lighter section costs less and lasts less. Ask for the sizes in writing.
- 03
What is the finish specification?
How many coats of primer, and how many of paint? A single thin coat looks identical on the day it is fitted and very different two monsoons later.
- 04
Are fixing and transport included?
A fabrication-only price with fitting added afterwards can look far cheaper than an all-in price for exactly the same work.
- 05
What is the lead time?
A date, not "soon". If you are working to a housewarming or a shop opening, say so and get the date confirmed before you pay an advance.
Any vendor unwilling to put these in writing has told you something useful.
From first message to fitted
Tell us what you need
Send a WhatsApp message with a photo of the opening, or call the workshop. A rough size is enough to start the conversation.
Choose a design
Browse our work, bring a design you have seen, or send your own drawing. We will tell you what is practical at your size and budget.
Site measurement
We measure the opening properly. Openings are rarely square, and a gate made to a nominal size shows it at the fixing.
Quote and confirmation
You get the design, the specification and the lead time together, so you know exactly what is included before anything is cut.
Fabrication
Cut, welded and finished at our workshop in Villapuram, with primer and paint applied before it leaves.
Fitting at site
We fit it, hang it, and check it swings or runs true before we leave.

Everything else people ask
How is a gate priced, by square foot or by weight?
Both are used in this trade, which is why comparing two quotes is so hard. Some workshops quote a rate per square foot of gate area. Others quote a rate per kilogram of steel used. The same gate can be quoted either way and land on a similar figure, so the basis alone tells you nothing. What matters is what the rate includes. Ask which basis a quote uses, and what is inside it.
Why do two quotes for the same gate differ so much?
Almost always because they are not actually for the same gate. The usual differences are the thickness and size of the steel section, whether the frame is braced against sagging, the quality of the welding and finishing, how many coats of primer and paint are applied, and whether fixing at site, transport and hardware are included or added later. A lower headline number frequently means lighter section or an excluded item, not better value.
What should I ask for so I can compare quotes fairly?
Ask every vendor for the same four things in writing: the section sizes being used, the finish specification including number of coats, whether site fixing and transport are included, and the lead time. Once those are stated, the numbers become genuinely comparable. Any vendor unwilling to put them in writing has told you something useful.
Can you quote from a photograph?
We can give you a rough indication from a photograph and an approximate opening size, which is usually enough to know whether a design is in your range. A firm quote needs a site measurement, because the opening width, how square it is, and the condition of the pillars all affect the work.
Do you charge for measurement?
Contact us to arrange a measurement and we will confirm the position when we know where the site is. Please ask when you enquire rather than assuming either way.
How long does a gate take?
It depends on the design, what is already on the floor, and the season. Ornamental and automated work takes longer than a plain barred gate. We give you a date when we quote. If you are working to a fixed deadline such as a housewarming, say so when you enquire and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done.
Do you fix at site, or only fabricate?
Both. Fabrication happens at our workshop in Villapuram and we fit at site. Confirm at quote stage whether fixing and transport are inside your quoted figure.
Can you make a gate to my own design?
Yes. Send a photograph, a sketch or a drawing. Speak to us before you finalise it, so we can tell you what will hold at your size and what the section needs to be. Changing a drawing costs nothing. Changing finished steel does.
Which areas do you cover?
Madurai city and the surrounding district, and we take work from nearby towns including Dindigul, Virudhunagar and Theni. Tell us where the site is when you enquire and we will confirm.
Do you take trade and contractor work?
Yes. We supply builders, contractors, architects and interior designers, and we fabricate to drawing. Trade enquiries are welcome.
